Dr. Walter Doty, MD
Originally from Alabama, Dr. Doty grew up in Birmingham and graduated from Homewood High School in 1999. He attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham graduating magna cum laude with honors with a B.S. in Biology in 2002. He attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine and after graduating in 2007, remained at UAB to complete his internship and residency in Internal Medicine. Following completion of post graduate training in internal medicine, he joined the UAB internal medicine faculty as Assistant Professor of Medicine through 2011.
In 2011, Walt married Elizabeth Wyatt, also from Homewood, Alabama before being selected for Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. During his three year fellowship, he conducted both bench research and clinical research into the pathogenetic mechanisms underlying idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). After completing fellowship, Dr. Doty moved to Dothan in 2014 at which time he joined Pulmonary Associates.
Dr. Doty is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. His interests include interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, advanced bronchoscopy including endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), as well as critical care management of sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
He and his wife Elizabeth have two beautiful children Ries and Mary Evelyn.
